What is a wildlife rehabilitator? A person who volunteers their time caring for injured and orphaned native Virginia wildlife. They are specially trained to treat wildlife in need of assistance. The goal is to be able to release the animal back into its natural habitat. Rehabilitators are licensed by the state to care for mammals and by the federal government to care for migratory birds, raptors and waterfowl. What is ARK? We are a network of licensed, independent wildlife rehabilitators who volunteer to care for native Virginia wildlife. We also have volunteers who help with fund raising, transporting, work our hotline, and numerous other tasks. We have licensed educators who do programs for the public about the behavior of and coexistence with wildlife in your backyard. ARK is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) organization. All contributions are tax deductible. We do not receive funding or help of any kind from government agencies and depend upon public support to care for the animals that come through our doors.
