    Sometimes it is hard to identify infant animals that are born with no fur or feathers, have their eyes and ears closed and being so very small. We hope that these pictures and brief descriptions will help you identify the animal you have rescued or discovered.

    Baby flying squirrell
    One week old infant flying squirrel:  pink in color, eyes and ears closed no fur and have skin between the wrists and legs for the flaps.

    Three day old infant gray squirrel:  No fur, pink in color, eyes and ears closed.  The nails are black or dark in color on the hands and feet.

    4 week old infant opossums, thin fur, eyes closed and would still be in the pouch

    One week old cotton tail rabbits:  Sparsely furred, eyes and ears sealed.  Short tiny cotton tail and clear nails.

    Two week old baby groundhog.  Thin fur, eyes and ears closed.
    Chipmunks
    Three week old chipmunks.  When born are furless, skin is striped, eyes and ears closed.
    Raccoons
    Two week old raccoons. Their markings are just starting to come through and are very thinly furred. Eyes and ears are closed.

    Mallard Ducklings - Notice the black line goes through the eye and touches the nose.  Chest looks yellow /beige and they are spotted.

    Wood Ducklings - Notice the black lin stops at the eye and their chest looks white and backs are darker and almost black with very few spots.
